    Maybe I was lucky but...

My limited dealings with Dr. R consisted of: 1. Calling for a catalog. I must have spoken to Mrs. Rebuild. She was very nice and put the $4 on my credit card. 2. I was a bit put off (but entertained) by the tremendous amount of propaganda contained in the catalog. 3. With some trepidation I prepared to make my first order. I had all the part numbers/page numbers/prices written down. 4. Not sure who took my order, but I had a lot of trouble understanding him. However, no rudeness - order taken efficiently. I asked if everything was in stock. He replied yes, and order would go out next day or Wednesday at the latest (I ordered on Monday). I received my package on Wednesday. MJ

Let me add my two cents worth. I agree with Joe L. that this is the best catalog in this hobby. They have some great stuff at reasonable prices. My last ATTEMPT to place an order was handled by a very courteous operator. After giving my list of parts and numbers I then gave my address. "I am sorry sir, but the owner will not accept any orders from you." ???????? Not "your credit is bad"(it isn't), not "You send to many parts back (I haven't)": NO EXPLANATION! I had an elderly neighbor like that once. Everybody left the grumpy SO- alone because he was just like Walter Mathau in Grumpy Old Men. He would have complained if you hung him with a new rope (my father's favorite phrase about difficult people.)

I guess that is his style of business. I took my order and called Volunteer Products and talked with the nicest gentleman I have had the opportunity of doing phone business with. When I mentioned that his heater core was $15 more than the good Dr. he matched it. All of the other pieces were the same or less. I am converted. Trust me on this.

I don't have a problem with the Doc - none of us has to do business with someone we don't like. We always have choices. Besides, I see the Doc as the Corvette hobby's version of the "Soup ****" from Seinfeld. I don't get mad - I think it's funny. Life is too short to get bent out of shape over someone's eccentricity.

With that said, I'd like to agree with Gary on the people at Volunteer Products. I buy from them every time I'm at Corvette Expo in Knoxville TN. When I asked about parts they hadn't brought to the 3/31 show, they offered to pick them up that night and bring them to me at the show the following day. Real nice people and good prices.

They've just started a web site - I don't think it's fully functional but here is the URL: http://www.volvette.com
