    57 Shocks Question

I've seen on the board references to OEM shocks still being available from Chevrolet. I called a local dealer this weekend and was told that they were still available. I don't think they have the spiral, but I was curious if anyone knew anything about them.

The part numbers I was given are as follows:
Front: 3192095 $50.68/EA (AC Delco product)
    Rear : 3192962 $50.68/EA (AC Delco product)

Does anyone know anything about these?

You won't know how much different these shocks are from factory originals until you buy them, open the box and visually ID them. The service PN's from by '58 vintage P&A Catalog are:

    Front 5531206
    Rear 5531213

which is substantially different than the PN's you quote.

    Two tidbits:

    (1) The AIM called out discrete PN's for shock + mounting hardware and when packaged for service, different PN's were used denoting a 'kit' of shock + mounting hardware packaged together in a box.

    (2) Some of the shocks now in the system are post Delphi spin off where despite a Delco box, what's inside is supplied is NOT Delco manufacturered but sourced from external suppliers (Monroe, Gabriel) and fits/functions like the original Delco shock but is VERY different in configuration...

GM #3192095 and 3192962 were never originally used in PRODUCTION ; they were SERVICE-only part numbers that date from the late 60's. I show that GM #3192095 was discontinued in August, 1990 and GM #3192962 was discontinued in April, 1993. The replacements are GM #22064272 and GM #22064271, respectively. Those shocks remain available to this day. In either event, I would expect the shocks that are available under either of these sets of part numbers to be very similar to the originals, except for being non-spiral and dates/numbers.

Thanks for the help guys. I guess I'm going to go ahead and take the plunge using these revised numbers. It sounds like these might be the best option short of finding orignals.
