Joe, you post kinda says one, but just to clarify, as I recall, just one felt under the positive side.

      Joe,

Not sure about the red liquid on the positive cable washer. Originally, these were dipped in 90W gear oil at the plant. It wasn't red. Nothing else, that I know of, was applied to the cable or felt.

        Joe,

I'm curious about the red liquid you mentioned. Did you hear this from someone or read it somewhere?

          Re: FELT ON BATTERY CONNECT

          JG states:

"The positive battery post has a thick gray felt washer saturated witha reddish oily material to inhibit corrosion"

This sounds like automatic tranmission fluid.

Yes, you're right, it does sound a lot like automatic transmission fluid. Wasn't though. At least not for C2. The washer was dipped in 9985045 hypoid lubricant. (90W differential lube) I suppose this could have a slight reddish color but I'd guess it was closer to dark brown.

No, That Isn't What Was Used In Prod.

What you have there is a dealer accessory. It has nothing to do with what was actually used in production, at least for 63-67.

The part number that I posted is an assembly line number that was never available over the counter. It was indeed 90W gear lube and it was not bright red.

When I was at Sears a few years back I purchased a "die-hard." It died prematurely. In any case, they gave me some felt washers with some red stuff on it. I don't think it is trans-fluid. It looks like it could be something else?? Terry

A light coat of Wolf'S Head red wheel bearing grease should work. Rob

                        The AIM Page

This is almost totally pointless and I'm just wasting a lot of my time here, again, but here's the AIM page that shows the washer, #14, and the lube symbol, 6A.

                          The Lube Symbol

Here's the lube symbol, 6A, which includes the part number and description. It was NOT red. It was, in fact, dark brown. Nothing about it was red. I really don't care if everyone uses peanut butter instead of gear lube but if this is what's in the JG, it's wrong. I'm sure it will stay that way though!

                            I don't suppose

The manufacturing guys said "screw the AIM sheet, that gear oil's too stinky to mess with, let's just use auto transmission oil. It'll work just as well".

                            Nah. Never happen.

Anyway, you can buy the red stuff in a little spray can at your local FLAPS. Spray your felt washer red and that will eliminate yet another argument with the judge who is going by an incorrect Judging Manual.
