61 trunk color

We just picked up a 61 a week ago. It's a nice 20' driver with a 4spd and the wrong engine. It's black/silver w/grey interior, but the original red can be seen in a few places. Yesterday I was checking out the spare tire area and I noticed several places where the black paint is chipped off and it appears to be white(as opposed to lt grey primer) underneath. Was the inside of the trunk painted body color in 61? If so, then this would have been white w/red interior?

Ken,

On '61 the trunk interior was painted in exterior body color. From your description it looks that car was white with red interior.

look at the bulkhead behind the pass seat. the factory used a crayon to write out the original color.you'll have to scrape away the overspray from the re-paint job to find it, assuming the area wasn't stripped to bare glass previously. mike
