63 heater capacitor

The heater motor capacitor for '63 is one strange part. The repro is not even close. If I could see what an original looks like maybe I could use a wiring end from an old wiring harness to get the spade that goes on the heater motor. I don't know what the other wiring looks like that comes out of the capacitor. Looked in the AIM's manual and it's helpful as far as telling you to use a 6" piece of tape which I assume is black electrical (?) Anyhow we are stuck on this and was wondering if anyone could post a picture of this abortion. It's doesn't appear that the part is a work of art and most likely came from another GM car but that's just a guess. Thanks very much, John

That's because the '63 heater blower motor was unique in terms of its electrical supply terminal... The RF capacitor had to match!

The electrical tape is called out because there was excess wire from the capacitor and it was wrapped and taped to prevent 'dangling' in the breeze. Nobody I know of makes a correct reproduction '63 blower motor capacitor and those who restore these 'one of' cars generally tear their hair out trying to find a used original...

Someone with a '63 should be able to post a pix for you OR you can do it the old fashioned way by going to an NCRS judging meet and looking a correct original.

Jack, Had I done my homework better and searched further in the AIMS I would have found out that the AM radio does not use a capacitor but the AM-FM radio does. I am planning on indexing the entire manual while hiding somewhere as I waste more time searching. Your thoughts on the above are appreciated.

Meanwhile I bought new nuts for the exhaust manifold studs and received locking nuts that reminded me of the old rocker arm nuts that I used to see when I was the kid. They almost look like acorn nuts with part of the top cutoff. These can't be correct. What is correct. I know that they are steel and not brass. Thanks again, John

Jim, Thanks for taking the time to post the wonderful photos of a rare part. You hardly ever see a nice piece like this on the AM-FM cars. It's no wonder the the part is not being reproed as it would cost a ton of cash to do so. Just the molds alone for the rubber would be extremely expensive. I have also wondered if other GM cars used this part. Cadillac used a similar capacitor with bracket but appeared to have different ends on the wiring. I just bought one from ebay when I thought I needed it for my AM car even though the CAD one had the wrong ends. Thought I could bubba it up with old wiring harnesses. Thanks for the nice email also.
