    C2 LH Splash Shields (outer)

Thought I'd start another thread to continue discussing these shields, but this time for the LEFT side [see C2 fender skirts... Wed 5th, below].

Here's a pic of 3 LH shields, the one on the left is from my late 396 (same car as the RH one [with the filler tab] posted in the earlier thread). The middle is from my early'65 (#014xx) C60 car. The one on the right is from a mid-'64 [Holy Bostich !! thirteen factory staples on this one].

Notice the "scallop" on the weatherstrip edge of the middle of the left shield. This is what we commonly see available (?) today, either repro ? or GM. The early '65 and the '64 have NO SCALLOP; the edge is straight. In fact, on the middle shield you can see where the LH batttery bracket (to frame) on the A/C car has been touching, which I suppose was the purpose of the scallop -- to accomodate air conditioned and L78 cars with the LH battery location.

Question is: did the LH "scallops" begin sometime in mid-'65 ?

My June 64 has the straight edge as does you 64, with three staples.

      Wayne,
On a related matter would you post a picture of the inside of the fender area that holds the 2 vertical bolts for these splash shields. I know the 2 horiz bolts pass thru the fender well (or battery door on my C60 66)but I am not able to attach the vertical bolts. Both my LH and RH fenders have a ledge on the inside and I suspect I am missing some brackets for the bolts to attach to.

Thanks all -- seems scallop might have begun

around Dec 1964 to April 1965, from replies so far. Apparently, this change was not important enough to warrant a revised part #, as the 3797275 was valid from '63 through '67 MY. Also, when this modification began, it seems to have applied to ALL production, irrespective of what side the battery was placed.

P.S. Randy -- the drawing in AIM UPC 11-13, Sheet A3 (at least in the '65 version) shows the 2 bolts that screw vertically upward through holes in the lower lip (on the lower rear fender panel) into the square nuts of the steel splash shield. If this is not sufficient I can email you a pic of this area on my C60.
