Suggestions for finding my correct 69 rally wheels

After my last post in regards to the rallys that "came" on my 69 I've done a lot more research and I think my "original spare" is actually a 79 and not a 69(can't find the weld beed for the heavy spot or the TRA stamp).

Thanks Mark for pointing out that reality. I would have hated, not to mention looked stupid, thinking the spare was correct and have the car judged only to find out that the spare was WAY off!

Anyways... where would be a good place to look for a correct rally spare for a car built Jan 31/69? I have just started to look at ebay but there must be other places that would also have one but I can't think of any. I remember a few months back on ebay there was a set of five with new Goodyear redlines. It was a very nice set with the proper overspray on the back side that I should have bid on. The set went for around what the five tires are worth so even with shipping it was a decent deal. It had a 69 dated rim but I think it was later than what I needed so that is why I probably didn't bid but at least I know they are out there.

Since that auction I bought my tires and I will use my four incorrectly dated rallys for driving so all I really need is a correct spare rim. Anyone know where I could find one?

    Thanks,

I have bought multiple sets of rally wheels on e-bay, but the shipping is a killer - about $50 to $75. Remember, the same "AZ" rims were commonly used by Hot Rodders and musclecar owners, so try your local swap meets, you may get lucky (I have) for $50 a rim or less! By the way, you don't really lose a lot of points if the date code is off, so you need to look at a cost per point and maybe for now use the rims you have and spend the budget on something else like a correct jack or warranty book.

I recently bought several original warranty books with protecto plates on e-bay, pasasenger car ones, not Corvette, but then again how many points do you really lose for a fraction of the price?

Yes Mark the cost per point is very good advice and I have been trying to watch that as best as I can. That is why I plan to use the wheels that I have but for the spare I thought I'd try and get a correct one seeing as I have to buy one anyways.

Swap meets up here are nil to none so that is why I hope to find one elsewhere. I'm going to do my very best to hit Carlisle next month so I might get lucky there.

      Speaking of jacks...mine is dated 9A and I think(hope) it's original. Any way to tell a 69 from a 79?

        Jack dates

The size of the date stamp on the jack changed in 1973 or 1974. So, a jack dated for 1979 would have larger date stamp than one dated for 1969. I know -- you are saying smaller and larger than what? Well I don't know, but maybe someone has a jack and can measure the size of the date stamp.

Greg, there is a guy at Carlisle that sells AZ wheels for $50 each.

            9A likely Jan 1969

I believe that by 1979, they were using a different dating system, I think it used a julian date (number for the day of the year) and the date was stamped on the end of one of the rivets or on the bottom of the block that the ACME screw threads through. Any other opinions out there on the dating?
