    67 turn signal switch

My right turn signal works fine...goes on, stays on until turn completed. My left turn signal does not cooperate as well in that it just won`t stay on. So, i took it apart and i see the problem clearly. The plastic pieces that are supposed to hook together appear to be worn down or whatever... such that it just does not want to stay in the on position. Now my original pieces are a WHITE plastic. This is the part that is attached to all the wires that run down the steering column to their destination. I order a replacement part from one of the after market guys and it arrives. I am dissapointed that i will now have an after market piece instead of an original but i prefer to have it fully operational so i won`rt lose so many points in the operations judging. I figure at a later point i can attach my original wires to the after market plastic piece that is not visable when it is assembled in place. The after market piece apparently made in Taiwan is a PINK plastic as opposed to the WHITE plastic of the original piece. I install it and low and behold the left turn signal still won`t stay on even tho it seemed to be mostly ok prior to being installed. We call the supplier and they confirm their has been problems with these after market parts and is going to honor a return. With some help in sourcing we find what i expect is a USED ORIGINAL piece...and the supplier guarantees it will work. I receive it today and it seems to work fine....and i expect to install it in the car on Monday, however, i have the following concern. This "USED ORIGINAL" part appears to be original wires, but the plastic part is PINK as was the Taiwan part. Can sombody who is familiar with the original pieces tell me if original parts come in both WHITE and PINK or do i have another after market part here with possibly original wires. I paid a price that represents a USED ORIGINAL which is fine if it is just that....need advise from the experienced please.

I believe that some or all of the original 67 switches were pink. I know that at least some of the GM service replacements were pink.

      Richard,

I have the same problem but now in both directions on my 67. Corvette Central has a repair plate (which is white) for a 67 for $10, and which I just received (it has instructions). I also have the $75 switch from the partsladi on ebay which is red/pink, supposedly a new repro made in the USA to GM specs. It has a brown connector on the bottom, instead of black as my original.

To be honest, I haven't gotten into this project yet, but the plan is to try the repair plate on my original first. If that doesn't work, I'll use the repro.
I think that all of the originals were white, service replacements white or pink, but just guessing.

Not sure if the interior judges would notice the brown connector connected to the black harness connector, or take any points for it.

        Jerry,
At least from the Corvette Central pic, I can't see that that repair plate resembles anything close to a 1967 T/S switch. I have two pink/red BPM replacements in stock for the future and they look just fine. Not Taiwan as far as I can see. They do have the brown connection bus at the bottom but is anyone going to notice? The important thing is that they work.

I think JohnZ commented recently that there may not be a repro run of these again. Hence my purchase of two. And I do not believe the BPM repros from the likes of Shee-Mar and Lectric Limited are Chinese.

          Paul,

I do not think the repair plate in the CC picture is the 67 one. I have both the BPM switch from ebay, and a 67 repair plate from CC.

The 67 repair plate from CC is nearly exactly like the actuator plate on the BPM signal switch although a little lighter in construction. It could be used to replace the actuator plate on the BPM switch if one had to. However, the instructions which come with the repair plate are very generic and really suck.

I think I'm going to try to use the repair plate with my original and hold the BPM switch in reserve.

It makes you wonder why these companies do not post the correct pics. In any case that is good to know. I now have three operable switches and that should keep me in automatic cancellation mode for some time. The comments from some about there not being another production run for some time may be hype but you just never know.
