      Mike,

Somehow my reply was cutoff, so I'll try again.

If you're referring to the stamped steel light housing, then that should be zinc plated. I can't think of anything in the assembly that should be painted.

HELLO JOE.. I AGREE THAT THE BACK OF THE ASSEMBLT IS ZINC PLATED,AND MINE IS. IT IS THE VISIBLE SIDE WHERE THE LENSE IS THAT IS A GREY OR SEMI-GLOSS SILVER. THAT IS THE CODE I NEED. MIKE

            Hi Mike:

I used some leftover "Argent Silver" that is made for Rally wheels. It seemed to match the factory color pretty well.

If you plan to have your car judged, be aware that the service replacement license light sold by GM evolved over time and the later ones differ in three respects from the original:

            1) The slots for the two nubs that retain the bulb are full, open slots on the original 1967 light, but are simply pressed recesses in some service replacements.

            2) The gasket in the original was white, not gray.

            3) The original lens had molded "bumps" around the perimeter that do not appear on later service replacements.

I'm not sure when the changes were made in the service replacements, so yours may or may not have all these features. I have some photos on file if you need clarification on what I have described.

THANKS FOR INFO. I SHOULD BE ABLE TO COME PRETTY CLOSE NOW.. MY LIGHT DOES NOT HAVE THE OPEN SLOTS OR WHITE GASKET. MIKE
