I have read many posts in the archives that before starting an engine that has been sitting for an extended period, you should first fill the fuel bowls with a syringe to the point where the fuel just begins to dribble out the venturi nozzles. I am feeling like a dunce, but have no idea where the fuel should go when I look into the top of the carb. I don't just want to start squirting gas in there. Where does it go? Thanks.

Re: filling AFB float bowls
More searching in the archives found the description I was looking for, which I will post here in case anyone else is interested:
Fill each bowl through the bowl vents. A syringe works well. Fill until the fuel just dribbles out of the discharge nozzles in the booster venturi. Then go through the normal cold start procedure.
I will have to go home and look at my Carter AFB book and/or the ST-12 to figure out where the bowl vents and booster venturis are......
The bowl vents are those 4 brass jobbies coming out of the carb body at an upwards angle toward the center. They vent right in the middle of the carb throats.
The booster venturis are down in the carb throats. They're the jobbies just above the throttle plates, sticking out in the airstream- Top

Re: AFB float bowls
On my Holley's I use the vent tubes for the fuel bowls. I don't fill the secondary bowls since they will fill up quickley when the engine starts. Depends on how long my cars have not used as to how much I put in. I use gas from my lawn mower can since it is fresh this time of year. The Holley carbed cars start just like the later model fuel injected cars, no unneeded cranking.- Top
