    63 Fuel gauge check

Reassembly in progress. New sender. New wiring harness.

I found a post in the archives that outlined a way to check the fuel gauge. As I understood the instructions, connecting the input and sender wires should produce a full deflection and connecting the sender wire to ground should also produce a full deflection. I performed these tests in two places; 1) on the wires that connect to the sending unit, and 2) on the main wiring harness at the connector that plugs into the rear harness connector. Light green wire for 12 V to sender, and brown wire for sender to gauge. I connected a jumper to the pins for the green and brown wires and turned the key to ON: no reaction at the gauge. I connected the pin for the brown wire to ground: no reaction at the gauge. Same results at the wires connecting to the sender. The gauge points to a bit less than one-half full. The cluster is mounted on the steering column and the cluster ground wire (black w/ white stripe)is connected to the pin on the back of the cluster. Any glaring mistakes in my story?
I also connected a voltmeter between the green wire and ground, thinking that it should see 12V, but I got zero on the voltmeter. This makes me think I'm doing something wrong.

    Comments appreciated.

    Steve -

Sounds like you're not getting 12V power to either the gauge or to the sending unit (green wire). Do your temp gauge and parking brake alarm lamp work? They're on the same circuit from the fuse block - may be a blown fuse.

      John

I just came in from the garage to post that I had not put fuses in block of the new harness. Oops.

      Thanks.
