    '56 speedometer rebuild

The rebuild went well(?)on my speedometer, but for some reason the needle doesn't move. I have taken it apart again to see if I can figure it out. There is a small spring on the needle stem, do you have to somehow "load" the spring in order for the needle to move? What didn't I do and how do I fix it? Thanks. BTW- The odometer roller turns fine when I hook the cable up to a drill.

Is the needle shaft turning inside the needle it self??

Roy, the needle fits snug onto the needle shaft so I don't think that it is too loose. When I hooked the unit up to the drill to turn the cable, it didn't look like the needle shaft was turning. It could be that I didn't get enough revs on the drill to move the needel possibly?

        Garry -

        1000 cable rpm should show 60mph, 500 = 30mph, 250 = 15mph, etc.

          John,
I showed virtually no movement at all. Anythoughts on where i went wrong on reassembly?

Nope, I'm not that familiar with the speed cups, magnets, calibration, etc. - time to consult with an instrument guy.

John, my conclusion as well. Recommendations? Thanks.
