    67 3X2 carb overflow

after driving car i observe gas has collected in small cavity at top of intake manifold. so i wipe it out with a paper towel and it happens again the next time. ok..i drive the car a ways leave engine running and check..no problem. i get home leave engine running..still no problem..turn engine off and watch a while....still no problem..check again about 4 hours later ..still no problem (engine still felt hot even 4 hours later..wake up this morning and there it is again...gas puddle in cavity at top of intake manifold. It appears something is happening after things cool down....anybody got any theories?

    Re: 67 3X2 carb overflow

    Richard,

My 67 427/435,does the same thing. Had all 3 carb's rebuilt 2 years ago, my carb guy tells me the o-rings inside the lower base plates, where the throttle rods exit through the base, expand and contract with heat. Bottom line Holley's are leakers over time. Keep a good supply of commercial type paper towels handy. after a days cruise, the next morning i'll wipe up the excess with a light dab of acetone on the towel, all is as it was before, clean until the next cruise.

      Is it the center carb?

If so, take a close look at the accelerator pump mechanism. Sometimes the diaphragm will seep a little - the 4 screws may need to be snugged.

or the pump cover is warped and needs

sanded flat. these carbs leaking down caused a lot of BBC engines to expire because of gasoline in the oil. the next time you park it remove the gas tank cap and see if it happens.
