        Re: $$$$$ paint job

Thanks Joe. This is one of those rare 1967 SBs with a BB hood. JUST KIDDING!!

The car is obviously not NCRS material but I enjoy it very much. I don't know the difference between a driver and a show paint job but I am very satisfied with the finish on mine. The work was done in the spring of 2005 and to this day there have not been any chemical bleed-throughs or re-occuring stress cracks. The shop knew its stuff. When it was stripped I was relieved to find only a few minor cracks and no collision damage from the past. So things proceeded nicely according to the original quotation. The turnaround-time was just shy of three months; and that was basically in the Canadian winter with no consequences to the 2005 summer driving season.

Again, not an NCRS candidate and just a driver. And it is driven regularly. The shop I chose was based on their expertise in dealing with fiberglass. They painted my 1979 in 2000 and that paint is pristine to this day. Thus I went back to them. The 1979 has DuPont Chroma Premier paint but the shop shifted to Sherwin-Williams about two years. I was a little shy about agreeing to that brand (I had just painted my bathroom) but said go ahead. The rest is of course history.

If any one is interested there were some 130 hours of labour invloved. The price I noted earlier in $US. The finish is BC/CC in the orignal Goodwood Green. The materials were:

        Sherwin-Williams Ultra 7000 System
        Primer-P30W
        Paint sealer & adhesion promoter-S65
        Base/colour coat-Ultra 7000
        Clearcoat-CC639

Thanks for listening about this "incorrect" 1967.

Those that gave the +$8000 estimates. What does this include? Is the paint shop stripping the body/repairing/painting?

How about if someone showed up with a primed body with all the work done? I used to paint cars 25 years ago but would only trust myself with primer now. Of course I used lacquer back then so maybe I could but I found that enamil went on a lot easier and shinier.

            Re: $$$$$ paint job

Cost me about 4K to get mine that color green. Me and a couple of guys (mostly them) did the bodywork in my garage and I paid a guy $300 to spray it with Sikkens b/c. Love that black stinger, that's what mine has. Even though it's thought not to have happened, I heard from a well known parts vendor that was around when these cars were new and he says his 67 GG coupe had a black stinger when new. So whether deemed correct or not, mine has a black one. Just looks better to me than a white stinger especially with a black interior and black soft top like mine has.

              northeast metro ny area

prices for a show quality paint job are probably in the 8-10k area for a corvette. probably a few k less for a "standrad" paint job. from what i have seen , these prices are WITHOUT any bodywork or materials (kinda steep huh?)

Not go on ad naseum, but here is a pic of some minor resin repairs. And BTW my comments a little earlier re "correct" were not intended to be a slight on the NCRS mission. I admire it very much. I just chose different direction.
