    Re: Body off question

Charles, congratulations on deciding to do it yourself. I have restored a dozen or so body off cars-it gets easier and easier. Take a lot of pictures before you disassemble the car. It will be easier upon reassembly. On almost every car I restore I take pictures of bolt heads, wiring harness routng, orientation of shims, pictures of bare fiberglass after hood latches, hinges... are removed. You cannot take too many pictures or make too many notes about finishes, washer and lock washer usage and orientation..
Ask many questions, use the search engine, capture relevant pictures when they are posted here (ask permission and thank the poster)and good luck.

      Charles,

Last Sunday, when I showed you that extra seam on the right front surround, you didn't flinch. You indicated that you wanted a nice driver. Well, it looks like you've now become infected with the "anal retentive" virus.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

      1. Join the Central NJ Chapter of the NCRS.
      2. Join your local Corvette club, Corvette Express, based in Marlboro, NJ.
      3. Get involved.....you'll be hard pressed to go it alone.
      4. Based on what I saw, be prepared to spend upwards of 25K for parts and outsourcing alone (your labor doesn't count, because it's a "labor of love").
      5. You've got a nice garage under construction, which will help immensely.
      6. If you've decided to go "whole hog", then you've landed in the right place (here).
      7. I admire your "grit", and wish you the best of luck.

      Joe

        I heard a saying:
If you didn't build it, it doesn't belong to you.

If I ever get back to New Jersey (Mom was from cental NJ) I'll call.
If you get to St.Louis, look me up. Again, the joy of driving something that you built yourself is hard to describe. I did it twice in the late 60's early 70's with street rods and it's as good as I remember.

              Right on!
I feel like the cars I've built belong to me, even after they were sold.
