I have two sets of chrome headlamp 'covers', one set has the part # 3742509 and the other has 3779239 yet they look to be the same part. There are differences in size or location of the cast part #'s, logo, etc on the inside of the parts but otherwise the same. Are these simply originals vs. re-issues of the same part?

The GM #3742509 moldings were used in PRODUCTION for 1958-60 Corvettes. These moldings were originally chromed. The GM #3779239 moldings were used for 1961-62 Corvettes. These moldings were not originally chromed. As far as I know, both of these moldings used the same basic casting; the number seen on the part is the part number for the finished part and not a casting number, per se. If someone has previously chromed a set of GM #3742509 moldings I expect you'd end up with exactly the situation you described-----moldings with different embossed part numbers but otherwise identical. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
