65 365 hp oil pan

Hello, the 65 Judging Guide says that the oil drain plug faces the rear of the vehicle, but I saw a 65 365 hp motor with the oil drain plug existing the driver side of the oil pan, just in front of the oil filter cartridge.

Is this a non stock oil pan or is the Judging Guide in error?

By the way, the motor looks completely original.

NON stock pan, the JG is NOT in error.

agree wtih clup. the pans that exit on the side were service replacement oil pans. mike

The side drain pans were both PRODUCTION and SERVICE oil pans BUT NOT FOR CORVETTES. The side drain pans are for Chevelle, Camaro, and full size passenger car applications. They can be used on a Corvette application, but they were never originally used in PRODUCTION on a Corvette application.

ALL Corvette big block oil pans for ALL years and ALL engines, PRODUCTION or SERVICE, had the oil drain on the rear lower surface.

mine comes out rear - nos pan - you can also tell the difference - pan sump is huge - sounds like a regular chevy pan on there. see pic - notice how big the sump is 6qt
