    Roy,

There are two arms to cause the parallel-o-gram effect, ie; bracket plates are to remain in the same plane open and closed.

          Roy -

The same guy who did that probably didn't know what the pop-ups and front hood blocks were for, either; not many '53-'57's have the front of the hood fitted properly.

OK lets go over it, because no one responded ? May be help newbees out?
The second arm I call is the articular arm ( I also call the soft top arm
That straighten out the frame above the windows which I imagine every one
            Also knows how to adjust)
"IF" your 53 to 57 has never had any front end damage the articular arm in
The last inches of shutting your hood goes over-center pulling the front
Hood down on and compressing the pop-ups and rest on those "two" hood blocks

When you release the hood "two" things are suppose to happen A. The rear
Hood pops up B. The front hood line also pops up
The front pop-ups are only there to aid clearing the front hood line so as
You lift the hood it don't hit the body.
The front hood blocks are only there to level the front hood with the body.
We all to often see hoods that are higher then the body or mutilated holes
In the hood hinges or pop-up
1.Why hinges trying to lower them to allow the hood to set down
            2. Why Pop-ups to lower them also to take pressure off the hood

Now if radiator support is installed Ok and the lower shims are added correct having no body damage repair and you need downward pressure on the pop-ups keep adding shims to the hinge rear Bolts only ( this will pivot the front hood line) pulling it down on to the
Pop-ups, the two hood blocks ( elongated holes) are adjusted to level the front hood line to the Body. A good adjusted hood will have pop-up wear marks on the hood wear they Set
.If you see some one aiding (using two hands to lift the hood, A. Hood
Not adjusted right B. the hood under bracing has come lose from the outer
Skin allowing the hood to flex ( you can tell by looking at the hood when up the right Side is not in line with the left side ( lower).

Repro pop-up spring may be to strong or short like some hood male latches !

              Interesting. Thanks, Roy.

Question: Have you ever seen hinges "hot formed" from the factory to offset the hood to one side? My '57, which I don't believe had any front damage prior to my ownership, has all four links offset maybe about 3/8 inch to the left by torching and reforming. The body is completely stripped and the only questionable repair is a large piece of fiberglass cloth behind the front emblem area approx centered between the grille opening and leading hood opening edge, covered with blackout. I think this is a factory repair, but I'm not positive. No other factory or non-factory looking repairs, etc., in the area, yet I can't move the radiator frame and hinge mounting far enough left to fit the hood if the hinge links are straight. It's as if the bulkhead had shifted to the right in glue-up.

              Any thoughts?
