C1 283 Cranks & Rods all the same?

Can I put the crankshaft and rods from a 1963 283 in my March 1960 ...519 Block?

What should I do to insure good operation?

Yes, you can. They are completely compatible. However, this does not mean that all 283 connecting rods and cranks are the same. The ones you mentioned are compatible and completely interchangeable, if not exactly the same. No mods will be necessary. However, as always, you should have the complete reciprocating components precision-balanced before installation. This includes, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, harmonic balancer, and flywheel.

By the way, I don't really recommend the early 283 or 327 connecting rods for use in rebuilt/restored engines. They may be adequate, but they make me nervous. A better plan is to obtain a set of later 327 connecting rods (they were once known as GM #3864881, are GM-discontinued, but available in rebuilt form from some engine parts sources) or aftermarket rods.
