    C2 Spare tire carrier

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to remove paint from the fiberglass spare tire carrier.....? I have nice original one, but a previous owner treated it to a nice coat of black paint. I want to remove the paint to get down to the original grey fiberglass material, but am not sure of the best process.

    Thoughts..... Thanks

    Garry,

While paint stripper may be the fastest and easiest, it also seems to remove some of the color from the fiberglass, leaving a bleached look. The best method is a little slower and more of a mess but safer. Lacquer thinner soaked rags laid out on the surface will soften and eventually remove the paint, unless it's some of this new kriptonite unremoveable paint. In that case, you may be back to using paint stripper.

Berkible Gum Cutter P/N B101 removes paint and anything else on the tub & lid and leaves beautiful bare glass behind. I have done this wearing rubber gloves in a well ventilated area with fine steel wool. Other carb cleaners probably work but slower.

I have had good success using lacquer thinner as well, to remove paint from this and many other areas. You can put it in a spray bottle and use it as well.

Thanks..... I tried the lacquer thinner and it works - albeit slowly.

            look in the yellow pages

under soda blasting. Does a super nice, smooth job and will not disturb the surface.

Lacquer thinner works well -- soak the rag well. Occasionally change rags when one gets saturated with paint. Use gloves cause thinner will burn and dry skin. Worked on both my spare tire tub and heater box.
