A friend of mine has a 93 with a 6 spd. It was installed a year ago. now when he pushes the clutch in all the way it makes a rapping sound, like a engine knock. Anyone have any ideas what's going on with this clutch? Thanks in advance. Dean

Re: 93 vette, clutch problems
Dean,
A problem that was common on 89 to 91 L98 engines was a dual mass flywheel with excessive play in the dampening springs. A replacement #10174482 was issued by GM in 92. The 93 should have the new issue unless someone incorrectly changed it to one of the older ones. Either way if the symptoms fit it is worth looking at.
Symptoms: When car is cold a clicking noise is heard for about a minute (like a lifter with no oil). Noise disappears in closed loop operation, but may be detectable when clutch is disengaged while downshifting or any time engine or drivetrain torque is removed ( the flywheel is free to oscillate). Test by pulling a plugwire and listening for the noise.
Let me know if you need more info or find the problem. Good luck!
