C1 trunk latch striker painted?

Hi all,

I was looking at a photo of the trunk of a Bow Tie 1960 and the striker for the trunk latch is clearly painted body color. The whole piece at the back of the spare tire well is obviosuly painted prior to installation, but this would mean that the striker was installed before paint instead of after.

Anyone know anything about this from their expereince with unrestored cars? Could some have been painted and others not?
