    Original Dealer purchase 1964

Is there any way to find out what Original dealer a car was purchased from? I have in narrow down to a Pensacola, FL car. The two Chevrolet dealers in 1964 were, Bob Salter Chevrolet and Buggy Works Chevrolet.

    Thanks,

    Sam

    Sam-------

I'm afraid that just about the only way to narrow it down further would be to have some original documentation for the car. I doubt that any other records which may have been once extant would remain extant.

I do have a title history with copies of all, except the 1st. 2nd states that the 1st lien was owned by the Navy Federal credit Union, Main Navy BLDG, Washington, DC. sold to a Robert Young back in 66. He was a pilot who went down in the War.

      Thanks,

        Sam------

Your very fortunate to have what you have. Most states do not keep records, from which title searches derive their basic information, going that far back. From what you describe, I figure the second owner, Robert Young, purchased the car in Florida. So, it's too bad that Florida has records which go back 40 years, but they don't have records which go back 42 years.

Do you know if either of the 2 dealers that you mentioned are still in business? Unfortunately, even if one or both is, dealers very rarely will keep records this old. It's not impossible, but I'd be very surprised.

No, both of the two dealers have been bought out by two present dealers that are under new names and are in business today. I called both are not much help. I could try calling Navy Federal credit Union.

          Thank you for your response.

            Buggy Works Purchase

Sam....I can't help specifically for your car, but I'm the original owner of a 72 that I bought from the Buggy Works when I was a Marine going through flight training in Pensacola.

Sorry to hear the Buggy Works is no more..... but I do have their dealer number and old address phone number etc..... as well as some pics of the dealership (if I can locate them) when I bought my Vette, Mine is a little later than yours.... yet the dealership had been at the same location for years when I bought mine. At that time, the Buggy Works was reportedly the third largest volume Corvette dealer in the states. All of the Annapolis & Coast Guard Academy grads, as well as those of us who were meer college grads all descended upon Pensacola for Naval Flight Training. Buggy Works was located in downtown Pensacola, and was closer to the Main Gate of NAS Pensacola, as well as was located 1 blk from the hiway that lead to the beach. All the salesmen took the test drives to the beach.. almost un-fair marketing!! I had been in town for only 2-1/2 days when I stumbled upon the dealership. Two lots,, one for all the other Chevy's and on the other side of the bldg was the "Corvette Coral" 32 Vettes parked there that day,,, by the end of the day, there was one less,,, & I still own it.

Sadly, there were a lot of cars with very low miles for sale in those times which were being sold by relatives of those who didn't make it through Viet Nam. Sounds like the original owner of your car was one of those.
