    1960 Mech1 Judging Questions

I just returned from the Adirondack Chapter Meet where I had the privilege of judging a real nice blue/white 1960 owned by Doc Glick. My limited knowledge is primarily in 61's & 62's and at the end of the day I had some unanswered questions. His car is a very late production base engine car. Any thoughts would be appreciated:

    1. The base of the 61 & 62 air cleaner has extensions which protrude into the carburetor to position the air cleaner correctly on the carburetor. Although the late 60 Corvettes also had two-piece air cleaners like the 61 and 62, the 58-60 JM is silent on the subject. Can I assume the extensions were on the base from the introduction of the two-piece air cleaner?

    2. Is the accelerator rod to the carburetor unpainted, unplated steel?

    3. 61 & 62 distributors are held in place with a steel retainer and a clamp made of 1/8" round steel. The 58-60 JM states that wire type hold downs were not used on Corvettes. This car had the 61-62 style hold down and I wonder if the JM is incorrect in that some late 60's had the newer style. It seems that an item like this would not have to be changed at model year change.

    Comments? Thanks!

    Betting man comments...

The firewall mounted accelerator level arm was cadmium plated and the wire hold down clamp was on 60 - 62 cars...
