    Question about Stay-Dri Packs

Will be putting a 64 coupe back together soon. There was a bit of surface rust on some of the parts inside the doors.

Anyone have any thoughts about placing something like Stay-Dri moisture asorbing packs on the bottom of the doors below the regulators? Any harm here? Would it do any good? I know they do not last forever but is that the only downside?

    Mike,

I would make sure the drain holes are not plugged so that rain or water from washing the car doesn't get trapped in the door. If your car is kept in dry storage I wouldn't expect the Stay-Dri to do much for you.

Whoops, what drain holes? Can you describe their locations, number and size? This car has been worked on before and have discovered a few things missing, plugged, etc.

      Thanks

      Mike

        Mike,

Sta-Dry (silica gel dessicant)is only effective in hermetically sealed areas. Once left exposed to the atmosphere, they quickly absorb moisture, become "saturated" and ineffective.
They serve absolutely no purpose within the doors. But, as Wayne said, the solution is to keep the drain holes open.

Thanks for the input about the dryer packs.

Can someone try to describe the drain holes: Locations, number, size? I want to make sure that, over the years, these have not been plugged with prior repairs.

          Thanks

The drain holes are more like "slots" about 1/8 x 1" long along the bottom of the door in the lowest channel. They will be outside of the weatherstripping. I believe there are about 4 or 5....
