    restoration battery arrived

got home from nwregional and there it was on my door step....just a couple days late from saving me a full 40 point deduction....but i am happy to have it. I want to ask those of you who have installed one in a 67 or a C2.....what sort of strap or devise or whatever did you use to get it in there carefully around the fiberglass?

i made up a set of old battery cables, cut them to a length of about 18", fasten em to your battery and use the ends to help lower the battery into its resting place.you'll have to undo the expansion tank to manuver the batter home. i assume your 67 is a non-c60. if its c-60, thats an easier installation. mike

I guess he should be sure to tape off the loose ends of the battery cables that are used as handles. There could be some exciting but unrewarding results if the bare ends happen to touch during the installation process!

My car is a C60 so I have no direct experience with the non-C60 battery installation, but I read somewhere a suggestion to put the battery in one of those plastic shopping bags that has integral handles (actually, several bags layered for strength). This provides a convenient handle that allows you to lower the battery into place and tilt it as needed. Once the battery is in place you can use scissors to cut the plastic bags open and pull out the remains.

Another 'shop trick' is to put the battery into a HEAVY DUTY plastic trash bag, twist the excess into a 'rope' and use the bag as a temporary tool to turn the battery and lower it into place onto the battery tray. Once she's resting comfortably in place, peel the trash bag back and remove by lifting one side of the battery at a time and snaking the bag out across the bottom of the battery...

I've used a leather belt strong enough to hold the weight of the battery. Strap it around the middle of the battery so the battery can hang like a pendulum. You can turn/tilt the battery with one hand as you hold and lower it with your other hand that is grasping the free end of the belt. Just don't use the belt you were wearing as you could embarrass yourself if your pants fell down during the installation process.

The grease will work, but so will a myraid of products available at autoparts stores designed for the same application...
