    64 rear suspension finishes.

Can someone send a color picutre to me for referance of a 64 rear suspension that has been judged.

I currently have the t-arms, strut rods, lower shock mounts, spindle supports, backing plates and outer most drive shaft flanges out of the car and am getting ready to shoot some paint.

    Thanks

    Kyle,

Since nobody has responded to you, so far, I'll ask you what specifically do you need? I have pictures of a restored 1965 rolling chassis, not judged. If they can help you, feel free to let me know.

      Re: 64 rear suspension finishes.

I am looking for a picture of a restorded 64 rear suspension (t-arm, strut rod, half shafts). I have had some conflicting opinions as to the finish of the Strut rods and half shafts (natural vs painted). There is some question to the 63-64 process and resulting finshses vs the 65-67 process and finshes.

I will consult my JG when I get home, but a picture is worth a 100 words as they say...

        Kyle -

The strut rods and half-shafts are supposed to be "natural".

Thanks to all for the responses.

I got home to the JG and it states what many of you ad already stated, that the strut rods, half shafts, rod support, and falnges are natural. the JG does note that some early original 63's may appear blacked out. Given my car is a May 64 unit, it will keep them natural.

          Thanks again.

            Kyle-----

If by "rod support" you are talking about the strut rod bracket under the differential, it was not natural. It was semi-gloss black; probably dip-painted.

Joe, I am confused... P152 of my 64 judging guide states in the Trainling arm assemblies and spindle supports section that:"The Rear spindle support is bolted to the troque arm and is a natural unpainted steel forging."

has there been an update to the JG (above is a misprint?)

The spindle support are also listed as natural unpainted in the chassis restoration guide referece also. Was there a change somewhere in 64 that is ignored in the guides?

                  Kyle------

It's very possible that the rear bearing supports were natural. For C2 years, some were natural and some were painted. That's why I used the term "when painted" in describing the spindle support paint. I do not know, for sure, how it was done for 1963 or, even, if all 1963's were the same in this regard.

There is one part of this where the JG is definitely in error----not that it really matters, though, since it's really an academic point. That is the rear bearing supports were NOT a "steel forging". They were not manufactured of steel and they were not a forging, either. They were a NODULAR IRON CASTING. This is true of ALL 1963-82 supports although 1963, 64-74, and 75-82 were slightly different.
