    69 bb manifold overspray pic

I found this pic in my archives and was wondering if it is typical of 68-69 production engines.

It is supposed to be a 14k mile original so let me know what you think.

    Greg,

We were hashing this topic out a few weeks ago here. Check the archives.

Exhaust manifold overspray is one of those topics of much debate. From a
number of low mileage big block cars ( not just Corvettes ) I have seen
personally, I would say that yours appears to be as original as others I
have seen. I recently saw an L/34 69 Camaro with low mileage and the
overspray very much looked like this.

      Steve,

Yes I remember the discussions a few weeks back, I was the one that posted the pic of the dressed up one from the 69 sales brochure.

Since it's really quite difficult to describe what this overspray should look like I thought I'd post this latest pic to see what kind of response it gets. I'm thinking that from what I have read that it is typical of a production spray job. You say it is and hopefully others will comment as well so if the general opinions are the same then that is how my manifolds will get sprayed.

Now if I could only figure out what the INTAKE manifold overspray looked like......

Aaaah! Intake overspray - yet another one of those topics........

Probably more debate there than over the exhaust manifolds.

Sorry for not making the connection regarding your previous post
on this subject. It all starts to run together sometimes.

I would expect that the mileage ( engine run cycles ), geographic
location of the car ( rust belt, southwest, etc. ) would also have
a very important part to play here. Exhaust manifold corrosion is
horrible on some cars, yet not nearly as bad on others.

My 1969 L36 has a completely orange intake. This engine is pretty original but It could have been resprayed by previous owners during its 38 years life. Should this intake always be aluminium on a L36 or could it be orange as well?

          greetings,
          Rob.

I'm far from an expert but on this topic I'm 99.99% sure that your aluminum intake was not painted except for some slight overspray around the perimeter.

Re: 69 bb manifold overspray pic

Was the intake of the L36 always aluminium or was there a year change for the L36 intakes?

Sorry for these dumb questions but I have had the car judged twice and never had any points deducted for the orange intake manifold so I'm a bit confused.

              greetings,
              Rob.

                Rob,

I don't know what to say about your intake and how it has judged but I am quite sure that it was originaly natural aluminum. I have never seen or heard of one that wasn't until now...unless someone in the past has painted yours.
