From what I can tell from looking at 68's over the years is this. Most of the cars only used a fuzzy on the outside window channel (no sign of a rubber wipe). But, on some rare occassions I have found the remnants of a rubber wipe that fit between the fuzzy and the door frame. But, I have not seen any rubber wipe in the assembly manual. So I am wondering if this was a late change in production or was there a dealer service bulletin that identified this and made it possible to order a rubber wipe. I also see that a rubber wipe has been re-poped for some time. Opinions and observations appreciated! Thanks, Terry

Re: 68 outer window wipes.
Terry
My original owner 68 convertible had only the fuzzy on it. I had to replace them after about ten years as the fuzzy stuff started to rot away. When I bought the replacements from Chervrolet they came as fuzzy only with a stainless backing that had a raised ridge which went up against the door away from the window.

Re: 68 outer window wipes.
Terry my friends 68 last week of production still has the rubber wipe it is wider then 69 and later wipes and I think Corvette Rubber was reproducing the wipe. We have both see the wipes on early, mid, and late cars. So I would have to say all 68 used this wipe. Paul- Top

Re: 68 outer window wipes.
Interesting that it is not in the assembly manual. Maybe it was part of the fuzzy. The one's that I have found were in terrible shape. Only pieces of them left. I suspect they rotted quickly. Thank you for yyour input. Terry- Top

Re: 68 outer window wipes.
When we did an exterior survey for one of the earlier editions of the TIM&JG (it wasn't called that in those days) we found the rubber wipe scattered throughout production, but no consistancy. Some got the rubber and some didn't. We never did figure out what drove which style -- at that time the judging manual was silent on them because we just didn't know.Terry- Top

Re: 68 outer window wipes.
Interesting. Makes you sort of wonder. I purchased a set of reproductions. I found that when you put them between the fuzzy and the door frame, the fuzzy has a terrible time trying to snap into the door frame. There are several of those mushroom shaped things along the length of the fuzzy. They need to be able to push in far enough so that they snap in place. If you put the rubber wipe in there, they can't push in all the way. Just an observation. The other thing about all this is that I have never, ever, ever seen NOS 68 rubber wipes or fuzzies with rubbers attached to them. That sort of makes me wonder. I have seen a lot of stuff but not the rubbers. Thanks, Terry- Top
