my 57 wiper switch cable seems to be to short,it is in the second hole in the dash and have it routed directly to the hole in the fire wall am I doing something wrong

Greg,
Not looking at my car and trying to recall from memory, it should be the same hole that your oil pressure line runs through. This would have a grommet that would retain your wiper cable, oil pressure line and the tan wire running to your power top if you have one. If I recall correctly, it is the hole directly above where your ballast resistor is installed.
D you have a washer system also? That cable runs through the single hole grommet just above the female hood latch and and to the outboard side of the master cylinder and runs down to your foot pump.
