Looking for a better gun to shoot acrylic lacquer metalic. Currently use a Binks siphon 7 with 5hp. compressor with good results. However I know their is better, I am always a decade or so behind on technology advance. Also what sealer products do you all recommend for 2-6 year old lacquer. I have had excellent results with PPG any better? Many thx in advance for any help. John.

Just sprayed my first lacquer last evening with a Sata digital gun. I am still learning how to use the gun, but was very happy with the results. They are not inexpensive, $500.00+, but worth every bit of it.

You may have paid too much Papa S. By the time I need one, they will come free with a Happy Meal.

Looks like these control air pressure inside the gun using hi tech air metering.

        why change

That gun is probably fine or better would be a Devilbiss 502 with a 9000 air cap or old air caps as that was what was mostly used on that style of paint.

If you use a Sata for Metallic you should use a 2000 as per Sata Germany, reason is they say the RP will over break up the metallic.

Their system is to use a 2000 for the metallic then use an RP for the clear. The 2000 does not break up the new clears like the RP. Of course they are talking base clear.

There have been many posts saying old guns do not work on hew paint, never one saying new guns work better on old lacquer, never seen one in five years stating that, in fact based on what Sata is saying that an RP will break up the metallic too much then if you want it closer to original it would make sense to use the guns people were using at the time to paint that style of thinner paint.

My Devilbiss 502's with 9000 air caps (510 stainless passages) are more comfortable than the last series of Satas. Haven't had the new ones (3000 Series) in my hand yet they have resdesigned the handles and got rid of some of that square design.

The car next to Chip at the Detroit Autorama was final coated with a 502. 2000 to get a build blocked out then final clears with a 502 cause it sprays smoother.
