Re: paintremoval
I, fortunately, haven't had to strip anything in 25 years but my experience is that no one chemical stripper is necessarily the best in every circumstance. Depending upon paint brand, age and condition, laquer or enamel, etc., certain strippers work better or worse than others you may have had success with in the past.
I'd buy a gallon of a few different types and try them all before buying them by the case. I once had a 65 FI roadster with a green metalflake (and glassed in nose, flares and whaletail sculpted from Bondo, we used to call it the "GreenHornet" but it's probably someone's Survivor car now) that was absolutely immune to every single stripper made at the time (1976). I finally had to grind off the paint because it was so hard that it sanded like iron. I would have loved to know what the hell it was. (It wasn't Imron or Centari.)
BTW, not all strippers remove primer so you may have to sand the primer off which is not all bad. It's less harsh on the glass and straightens the body a little, as well. Also, if you are aware of any old (but good) body repairs you don't want to redo, sand those areas, don't strip them as the stripper will loosen the repair (unless it is purely fiber and resin) and you'll have to do them over.

Re: paintremoval
Eddie, Double check what's in that stripper just to be sure it's water based. I bought a gallon of the "Captain's" stripper at Carlisle 2 years ago without paying much attention to the active ingredients. Surprise! It contains lots of Methylene Chloride (MCL) which is very, very nasty and has low exposure limits. We use this at work everyday and don't go near it without a fresh air respirator. Needless to say, I sold the stripper and never used it. Soda or media would be the only stripping choice for me personally. Mark- Top

Re: paintremoval
Ian,
I tried Cap't Lee's and it worked pretty well (this is a OUTDOOR activity), but it was expensive. I bought BIX stripper from the Home Depot, seemed to work just as well, was much cheaper and NO shipping costs! Be sure to rinse with lots of water and a stiff plastic scrub brush, you don't want to leave any of that stuff behind. Good Luck......Best regards from Connecticut, Mark- Top
