The AIM (sheets B 1 & B 2) show washers on the wheel end of the front brakes only. The rears show no washers. But, when I read the '63 shop manual ('64 supplement doesn't cover the topic) it reads as if washers should be used at all four corners. Sales guy says front only. Is that right?

I'd say front only, too. If I recall correctly, the type of fitting used on the fronts are different than those used on the rear. I believe the front uses a "straight" thread which requires a compressive washer to seal while the rears use a "flare" or other type of self-sealing fitting. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: '64 Brake flex hose washer
i use the copper wahers on all hose/wheel cyl interfaces. may not be 100% correct but i don't like DOT3 on garage floor.doubt judges will pick up on washers on rears in event they ought not be there. mike- Top

Re: '64 Brake flex hose washer Front Only
The brake hose attaches to the wheel cylinder only on the front, the rear hose connects the brake block to the brake line that goes to the wheel cyl. Yo Mikie you loseen it.Phil 8063- Top

Re: '64 Brake flex hose washer Front Only
Mike and Phil------
Yes, the rear brake hose was used in the configuration that Phil describes. The same general sort of configuration was used for 1965+ Corvettes with disc brakes, too. However, that does not necessarily mean that a washer could not have been used at the connection point of the flex hose to the steel brake line. One was not but it is not beyond the realm of possibility that the junction could have been configured with connections that used such a washer. The fact of the matter is that as I previously mentioned, the rear hose connection used fittings of a type that no washer was required. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
