    Carlisle

I plan to be at Carlisle..located at space M19. Anyone that would like to stop by and chat ..please do.

This will be my first time at Carlisle and I am looking forward to it.

Anyone having any info on Big Brakes 684/687 or heavy duty suspension RPO 581 that can help build a data base for the future..lets talk..or if you have unique parts with weird casting #'s lets talk.

I am advised that Bendix made the initial cerametallic shoes and those were then replaced by the Moraine sintered metallic shoes. Moraine was also developing and supplying prototype heavy duty shoes and other HD brake parts during the 56/57 race season..and some of those prototypes became factory or otc service items.

Also..anyone having any vintage race film or knowledge of 57 airbox cars..we are seeking more details.

Factory or supplier blueprints would be very helpful. Information gathered will then be assembled and submitted to the retsorer for all to share.

Information on SR1 and SR2 cars and hallibrand wheels is also important...and needed.

There are also cast aluminum parts that were prototype's floating around..these too need to catalogued and studied.

    Re: Carlisle

    Joe,
I have a very early 1958 RPO 684 car that was extremely unmolested and never raced. It was built in November of 57' VIN # 1327. When I found it,it still had all of its original drivetrain except the rear gear. It also had all of its original big brake goodies except shocks, shoes, and rear brake cylinders. I have MANY "unrestored" photos to prove its' authenticity. I have since found all four shocks (with wrong dates), all four sets of the Bendix "copper colored" brake shoes, and rear cylinders. I know that most of the parts on this car are the same as the 57' RPO 684's. If you would like to compare notes or even come look it over please feel free to do so.
The big brake goodies that were still with the car include: front swaybar, front and rear backing plates, front and rear drums, seven out of eight "Japan Green" brake springs, front and rear scoops, all duct work, rear leaf springs, rear shock mount brackets, special offset front lower shock retainer brackets, and fast steering adaptor.
