    Wax for Lacquer

I currently own a recently restored 1957 Corvette, Cascade Green with Shoreline Beige coves and interior. I would like to put a coat of wax on the buffed portions of the car, but find only wax advertised for clear coat, which I do not want to use. The car is driven infrequently, and is garaged and covered. Any suggestions for wax (Brand Name) for a car painted in lacquer?

    Thanks, Greg #37915

Vista my favorite but its a pain to apply and wipe. maguire's yellow wax goes on and off easy. both ok for laquer without clear top coat. mike

      Re: Wax for Lacquer

The lacquer on my 57 has only had 3M Imperial Hand Glaze (p/n 051131-05990) used on it for the last 20 years. It does not contain any silicone or wax. It will remove the fine scratches and leave a beautiful finish and shine. No need to apply a wax. Everyone comments that the paint still looks like new.

The same is true for Meguiar's No. 7 Glaze; no wax/no silicone, but also no protection.

          Protection for Lacquer

Go with the Zaino Show Car Polish system. You won't be sorry.

In particular, Zaino Z-3 for non-clear coat. The difference between it and the
Z-2 (for clear coat) is an additiive to keep lacquer from oxidizing.

It's not a wax but you will get much longer protection than wax. ALSO NO silicone, NO abrasives and 99% optically clear. One coat will last you 1 year on your garage queen.

Nobody knows more about paint and paint protection than Sal Zaino.

            Greg,

Grant is right. Polish and glaze make the paint look good but do not offer protection from the elements. You need a finish coat of wax. Here is a website that can help educate you on cleaning/polishing/protecting paint.

Nothing but "Liquid Glass" has ever touched my 66. It was painted with laquer 12 years ago...has 75,000 fun driven, sun baked miles...and still looks perfect.

Thanks to all that responded, I appreciate the information and will look into each suggestion. I hope I was not misunderstood, the car is driven infrequently because I just relocated to South Carolina, and frankly haven't had the chance to get the "new" old Vette out on the road. That will change in the near future. Thanks Again...Greg

My wife loves Cascade Green 1957's! Any chance you could post a picture it or email one?
