I'm in the process of restoring a 1965 L76 convertible and have come across a hole in each door jamb midway between the hinge mounting points for the doors. This car had a "custom" sound system installed in it when I bought it which included speakers cut into each lower front portion of the door panel. The wires leading to these speakers were fed through these holes. I'm thinking that the person who had the sound system installed drilled these holes to feed the wires through but I am also curious as to whether or not these holes could be factory made. If these holes are not factory, my intention was to fill them in when the car is in the painting phase. Should these holes be factory made, what is their purpose? Any help in shedding some light on these holes and whether they should be filled in or left as is would be most appreciated.
I'm a new member to the NCRS family and have already benefited greatly from this technical discussion board and the archives. My 1966 L72 is running much cooler now after implementing the changes suggested by Duke and others in the archives about modifying the vacuum source to the advance can and the amount of ignition advance at idle. Thanks very much!!!
