    57 soft top

I hope someone has an answer, I had a new soft top installed on 57, on the inside back are two small straps on both sides of the window, now I know thier function , but both scraps have the female half of a metal snap so where should
the male half of the snap be placed 1. screwed in the back bow or 2. attached to the other end of the scrap so it snapped together when not in use thanks

    Paul,
The male mate to this snap is located on each side, facing forward and attached to the upper portion of the flat support bracket. I know that is clear as mud. If you lift the rear of your top and roll it forward, take the strap and pull it around (inward) the flat bracket to where it ends. That is where the male snap should be. The end actually ends up coming around and back towards you standing at the rear of the door. It will mount to the inside of your side window weatherstrip. You should find a hole there to accommodate the snap. I think it shows it in the AIM or look in any of the supplier catalogs for a picture in the convertible top section.

I know this is difficult in words,I know where the straps hook to on the sides by the windows what I want to know is when the scraps are not hooked on the sides by the windows do they just lay on top of the deck full length or are the straps snaped to another metal snap, is this still mud!!!!

        Paul,
Sorry, I must have misunderstood your question. To my knowledge, (never really thought about it) mine just lay loose. Never had any questions or deducts on judging either. Ask Roy Braatz. He just showed a buckled strap that was used on his '55, but i have never heard of anything for my '56 or '57.

          Re: 57 soft top-Garry

Garry, Can speak for the '56 strap and I'd guess the '57 was the same. About 1/3 of the way down from the rear bow the strap has a female snap, centered on the strap. the male snap at the end when not attached to the top side bracket is rotated in a circle and snaps to this midway female snap. The strap laying on the rear deck now has the appearance of thenumber "6". Regards, Jim

Jim is right it keeps it from moveing (air) damaging your paint on the soft top lid.
