Question for old timers-you decide if you are....

i just bought off of ebay an item that I am trying to learn more about. I suspect Loren, Art or others that worked for GM may know more about this item.

It is a key fob that kind of looks like a "fishing lure spoon". It is about 2" long and about 3/4" at the center widest point. On one side it has "Body by Fisher" with the coach emblem and then next to it it has "styling" "engineering" "research" lined up in that order from top to bottom.

The other side is more interesting. It has starting at the left "General TC Motor" and then next to that it has "Technical Center Dedication May 16, 1956" The material is most likely aluminum and it has a hole at one end clearly to be used as a key fob or charm of some sort.

Can someone give me a few more details on this? Clearly it was some sort of give away at the dedication ceremony of the Tech center. Anything else? Thanks.

      Kevin,
Yea, that's it.......almost. Mine has Body by Fisher where this one has Chevrolet. I paid a few buck less for mine but would rather have the Chevrolet logo on it. Didin't know there was one.

        Kevin,

I recieved this paper weight as a gift from an elderly lady friend of our family. She knew that I was a gearhead (at the time I had a '69 Firbird 400). If I recall her story correctly she recieved it at an inaugural event at the Tech Center in Warren, MI. I've always enjoyed it and kept it on my desk.

I think you will find that there is one for each building that was at the TC at the time.

I have something similar from an Open House the we had at Chevrolet Engineering in 1983 for the 75th anniversary of GM. The ironic thing about the ones I have are that they have a C4 Corvette stamped on both sides, but on one side it says "1983 Open House", on the other side it has GM / 75 in 2 boxes side by side. I would guess that the announcement to NOT have a 83 MY Corvette , had not been made.................woops!

These key chains were stamped out on a press out in the shop while you watched and the operator handed one to you. Needless to say I made a few extra trips thru the line. And as Joe would say.........................none for sale..............yet!

I'm glad that guys like Art are still around

to answer these tough questions - it's certainly better thatn the 32 year old judge who starts off "When these '62's were new....." By the way did they make Corvettes before 1985?

Art, were these given just to employees or were they available to the public at some grand opening ceremony? Looks like some really neat memorabilia out there.

Keys to my 55, this was a dealer give away in 53 to 55 , the GM logo makes it real , others dont have the logo (aftermarket)

Garry, It was strictly an employee, and their families, function. We had a few of these open houses and vehicle launch functions over my 37 year stint and there were a number of items given out that today could/would be called memorabilia.
