    Re: 65 Seat Belt Question

A handy tip when installing the seat belts. Use an awl to locate the holes that the anchor bolts go in. Once you have that awl poking through through the carpet, take a pencil style soldering iron and make you hole in the carpet. The nice thing about using the pencil point soldering iron is that you leave a clean hole without any loose threads to catch or snag. It melts the nylon of the carpet and makes a perfect fit for the bolt.

    Re: 65 Seat Belt Question

All original carpet that I have seen for 1965-67 have a square about 1 1/4 inches cut thru the rear binding into the carpet for the belts to attach to the anchor bolts.

Another tip.................If you don't have a pencil point soldering iron use a small torch to heat up the awl, which will cauterizes the hole. In fact I use a tourch to cauterize any cuts I make on the carpet, seat tracks, etc. I run a hot awl thru all the holes before I put screws in. If you are using the torch directly on an edge, just wave it over the cut surface and it will do the trick.
