Last week while driving my 65 coupe, it started getting dark, so I attempted to cut on the headlights. The right side has always opened with no problems and a slight turn of the small hand wheel on the left unit always has worked to get it started when it didn't come up right away. Both failed to open. After turning the hand wheel and opening both partially, the motors would close but not go the other way. I'm guessing it could be the switch or a loose wire. I'm probably going to take the hood off and remove both motors, clean them up and check the wiring. Any additional thoughts on what the problem might be before I get started? Thanks

Re: C2 - Headlight motor problem
-------Steve,,,You dont need to remove the hood to access the headlight motors. They will come out with the hood all the way up against the stop. Get yourself a good mirror to work with and discover the mysteries of working in reverse of what you see. While your motors sound like they need a good internal cleaning of the gearbox area, and possible gear replacement you probably have some corrosion going on at the connections somewhere. Be aware that sometimes you can turn the gear around to the unused side and get away without replacing it. The switch is also a good possibility and you can take it apart with a little care and clean the contacts within........Bill S- Top

Re: C2 - Headlight motor problem
Steve,
Be careful in pulling the wire connector from the motors. Don't pull it by the wires. I've done that and caused myself a lot more work.
Just follow the Service Manual without pulling the hood, it is just one bolt and one pin to get the motor out. Don't lose the plastic bushing on the shaft and remember the orientation to put the motor back.
If you get frustrated working upside down and backwards, pull the hood. It at least gives you some room to work.
