    1954 Heater Shut-Off Valve

I assumed my heater shut-off valve was original. I came across a diagram of the valve in the 54 Judging Guide that looks different than mine. The Judging guide shows the valve at the top, and on mine the valve is on the bottom. I gather that my valve is a later replacement? A picture of my valve is attached below.

    Thanks for your help,

    Russ

    Russ,

I'm not familiar with these cars but from yor picture it appears the unit is screwed into the motor therefore the direction of the valve would be contingent on how far it is screwed into the motor. Does that make sense?

Yeah, that's a good point. But the diagram in the Judging Guide shows the valve at the end of the pipe that runs parallel to the ground, The heater hose connects to the pipe that runs downward to the ground. Screwing the unit in another half turn won't change the basic orientation. My valve is on the wrong pipe.

      Thanks for the reply,

      Russ

        Russ,

Thanks for the further description of the unit. Now I know how it is different which makes my explanation worthless. Hopefully some C1 people will respond.

Russ, You definitely have the wrong shut-off valve. As previously pointed out and as you noted from the JM the shut-off valve should be in the position where your valve has an open end to connect the heater hose. If you have Nolan's Vol. 1 book there are some pictures there.
