69 Window Felt Replacement

Folks,

I'm in the process (meaning I started today and realized I'd better get some input first) of replacing the inside window felts on my '69 coupe. I looked at what appears to be the originals and noticed they are attached with about 12 3/8" round wire "staples". My question is this the original mounting for the felts, and if so were they mounted with the door panels on or off the door?

Hey Don:

This is the correct attachment method and they were stapled to the door panels when the panels were manufactured , ( off the car ).

So much for a "simple" afternoon job. Guess I'll add these to the take-the-door-apart-and-fix-the-rattles task, which is farther down on the list of things to do.
