My question is are parts availible to rebuild my 69 alternator # 1100859 date code 8M11 (42 amp)? Another question is can I use parts from alternator 1100111 63 amp from I believe a 1980 Monte Carlo (new) and rebuild my alternator with it? I need it rebuild it in a day or so!

upgrade?
A more powerful alternator is not really an 'upgrade'. If your car is stock (why else would you care about numbers?) in terms of power demand, an alternator with a higher output is redundant and futile- Top

Re: 69 alternator1100859 upgrade?
Ken-----
Most parts are available to rebuild your alternator, although not all of those that are available are available from GM/Delco. The parts that are generally required for rebuild, the drive end bearing, split ring end bearing and brushes are available from GM. The rest of the parts that are only sometimes needed, are generally no longer available from GM.
If the 1100111 is a 10-SI series alternator, most of the parts will interchange with your 1100859. Swapping the stator will convert you alternator to a 63 amp although, as Mike says, it's not really required for your needs. However, if the 1100111 is NEW and yours is, presumably, quite aged, swapping the parts might not be a bad idea.
The only piece that will not interchange is the positive diode bridge. This is rarely needed. Always test the diodes, positive and negative, as well as the voltage regulator by following the test procedures in your Chevrolet Factory Service Manual. If they're good, they're ok for continued use.
By the way, be EXTREMELY careful when you rebuild your alternator. The DRIVE END case of 1100859 alternator is VERY, VERY fragile. The ribs are easily broken during bearing replacement. You don't want this to happen. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: upgrade?
It's not so much I am interested in the extra available amperage as I thought it might be easier to find 64 amp parts being newer than 42 amp parts. I really wanted to rebuild one from the other. I'm understanding most parts will interchange. It's trying to make a show this Saturday with the "correct" alt. rather than one that doesn't belong. It won't bother me that it has a little more power than came from the factory if it is practically indistinguishable externally.- Top

Re: 69 alternator1100859 upgrade?
Thank you again Joe. I have no indication the bearings are need of changing yet but it appears the alternator isn't putting out a charge while I have a load on (headlamps). While putting a voltmeter across my battery with car running, I am getting only 11.9 volts. At the alternator I am reading 11.8. With the car off, my battery reads 12volts. I believe I should read 13v-14v if I was getting a charge. I believe I may need brushes and brush holder as it appears a chip was missing from a corner.- Top

Re: 69 alternator1100859 upgrade?
Joe, the parts did interchange and the swap is completed and tested and found to be working. The rectifier has the insulated BAT terminal which differs between the two. The original has a insulating washer that raises the rectifier of the housing and the newer rectifier has a ceramic bottom that prevents the body from making contact with the housing. I kept all the original fasteners ,etc and it went smoothly. Most parts were availible at NAPA and GM. I had to wait for the order to come in but I couldn't resist ttying as time is running out. Thank you so very much for your help and your knowledge. It made things so much easier.- Top
