    depends what you are cleaning

i used carb cleaner in mine when i was doing carb rebuilds. you can put water and glass beads if you want to "reskin" aluminum parts

      Re: ultrasonic cleaning

Most ultra sound cleaners allow you to use any cleaning fluid of your choice WITH the warning NOT to use anything that's flammable! Some have reported decent results using Simple Green...

        Re: ultrasonic cleaning

John, I used to use all the dangerous and smelly stuff in my ultrasonic cleaner until about the last 10 years or so. Luckily I didn't have a fire but the fumes used to kill me. Home Depot carries Zep Products. Buy the All Purpose Cleaner in gallons. Make sure you buy the light green stuff and not the purple. The light green is about a 35 or 38 to 1 concentrate. Mix it one to one or for more gentle use mix it one part Zep and about 1-1/2 parts water. It typically costs about 7.95/ gallon. Comes in five gallon drums but you don't save any money and it's too bulky. You can also use it all over your home in a milder mixture in place of the typical house hold products. If you have a heater in your tank the cleaner will work better although I have thrown some pretty dirty parts and they come out real nice at room tempeerature. Its perfectly legal and safe to use. Let me know who you like it. I have also gone the gamet and used the carb cleaners but when I contacted one of the major companies about heating it up they wrote me back immediately and said it was not recommended. I have heated the Zep to almost boiling and no problems. John

Re: depends what you are cleaning

Smokey Clem, Who ever told you that you can put water and glass bead in an ultrasonic cleaner to reskin. We reskin castings but not that way. That would be entirely incorrect. Ultrasonic cleaners are not tumblers. Must be the fumes from your new C6. John

the ultrasonic action of the cleaner will heat

the solution you use. i had a very powerful and large commercial one, over 5 gallon capacity and it would raise the temp of anything you put into it. adding glass beads to the solution would help clean rought surfaces like corroded AFB carbs faster.john,i guess you guys are using a abrasive slurry vibrator to do your "reskining".

Re: the ultrasonic action of the cleaner will heat

If you're using a benchtop Ney or Branson model then use simple green 4:1 @120*F
These units usually don't have any heat control on them. The generators are weak and there is no oil separation. If you have an industrial unit then that's a different story. I have 4 units, in fact I may be selling one if anyone is interested. They are full bench size-6'x3' and have a 40 khz generator.
The thing with Ultrasonic's is not to stack parts and to avoid flowing water as this will block the sound waves.
I use a unit that will separate and clean thousands of oily screw machine parts daily, yet I don;t have to clean the system for 2 months.
