I am having trouble locating an alternator for '69 427/435. The alternator number is 1100882. Does anyone have any suggestions? If I can not locate it, does anyone know what an acceptable replacement (for operation purposes only) would be?

1969 Corvette alternators are among the most difficult of alternators to locate. This is due to several reasons. First, during model year 1969 the only GM cars to use the then-new SI-series internal regulator alternator were Corvettes. Second, the 1969 alternator part numbers were not used on any subsequent year model. Third, the 1969 alternator configuration, apart from stamped-in part number, was unique to that year. Lastly, the 1969 alternator case design proved to be weak and many cases were broken at the time of rebuild or discarded by commercial rebuilders as a poor prospect to rebuild and WARRANTY. So, all of these factors have combined to restrict the supply available today severely. The "825" unit is one of the most sought-after and elusive of ALL Corvette parts.
Except for part numbers, all 1969 alternators have the same configuration. This configuration includes a split ring end (rear) case which includes an unusual set of 7 cooling fins for the regulator and 3 cooling slots for the diode heat sink. Also, there is the Delco Remy script on the bottom of the case. Unique to the 1969 split ring case half is the rear mounting lug. The boss for this drilled and tapped lug is mostly INTERNAL to the case. Some 1970 Corvette alternators used a case very similar to the 1969 EXCEPT that the mounting lug boss was RAISED and reinforced by 3 small "buttresses".
The 1969 drive end(front) case was also unique. In this design, the center bearing housing was supported by 6 relatively thin ribs which extended virtually to the perimeter of the case. The area between the ribs was open causing a very large cooling area. Some or all 1970 models may have used a drive-end case of similar configuration, but, of course, the 1970 alternator part numbers were different and these are stamped on the drive end case. Later alternators, up to and including present day manufactured units, use a drive end case with 3 short, wide ribs supporting the bearing and much smaller cooling slots caused by adding significant material to the face of the case.
Aside from configuration issues, it is VERY EASY to obtain an alternator for your car that will SERVICE your application perfectly. You could purchase a rebuilt unit at your local discount auto parts chain for a very reasonable price. Or, you could obtain a high quality AC-Delco rebuild from your Delco or GM dealer. The part number for the remanufactured alternator that you require is GM #1979865 and it currently GM lists for $112.00, but you can purchase it much less expensively from a discount AC-Delco dealer.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Americas Finest, 888-318-3883, says he has this alternator. BE CAREFUL, ask him to E Mail a picture or two, not just the numbers but the front and rear views of the cases. He seems to be under some misconceptions regarding the correct configuration.
