    Door glass front runner Assy.

I searched the Archives for info on this. The front door glass runner that attaches to the rear of the vent frame: How are some of you doing this assy.. There are 2 countersunk screws that run through the runner frame only at the rear bottom face of the vent frame. Also, the runner frame gets attached to the very top of vent window frame with 1 screw. The 2 middle screws start about 1 1/2" above the middle runner rivet hole. If I attach these 3 screws through the runner frame and into the vent, won't this make it very difficult to mash the rivets in place? How or what are you using to mash these rivets after assembled. I have considered using aluminum rivets, with a small enough head to fit into the countersunk space in the runner/fuzzy, ONLY down below where they are not visible. I don't want them to rub on the glass edge. Also what type of screw holds the very top of the frame to the vent window. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks DG

I can assume you are working on a midyear? Yes? If so, the bottom of the runner is retained by 2 rivets and the top of the runner is retained by the tabs that stick through the channel and the runner from the vertcal weatherstrip that the vent glass seals against and then the tabs get bent over. No screws. The screw at the very top that retains the stop on a conv is 8/32

Ken: Thanks for your reply. Yes, my car is a 65 convertible. I am looking for ideas on how to mash the 2 rivets down with. I am thinking of clamping some flat iron in my vice, narrow enough to fit into the channel up against the head of the rivet. Then hitting the other end of the rivet with a punch and hammer. Is the screw at the top a countersunk screw? Thanks DG

The top screw is countersunk. Why mash the rivets? Just insert them through the runner from the fuzzy side. There will be no interference at all. Often the bent over tabs do not do a positve job of retaining the runner in the channell so I epoxy or JB weld the runner in. Works perfectly.

Ken I was refering to how to mash the end of the rivet which is designed to be compressed/mashed. This assembly is awkward at this point and I was looking for ideas on what some NCRS members use to compress/mash the hollow end of the rivet. I may wait till I can get a 3rd hand to hold assmebly upright while I do the rivet Mashing. Thanks DG

            Dick,

I had the same issue as you when I did my 67 runners and finally decided to use aluminum pop rivets as the ends get buried in the fuss.
