    72 fiberglass color

My 72 coupe has light gray body panels, specifically looking at the underside of the rear quarter panels. I know earlier years have panels that are more black in color. Was there a change in the color of the panels from "black" to a lighter color gray at some point in production? When was the change made? Thanks, Tom

Changes started in `69 with the doors. They were a product called Genite. These panels were medium to light gray in color. The first SMC glass started with the rear quarters in `71. They are also gray, but tend to be lighter in color. The complete changeover to SMC was complete with the `74 model. That is the first one that had all new panels.
