Re: The life cycle of an ordinary Corvette

Wish I could spend $200 and find out all the owners and places my 60' has been over the last 46 years. All I know is that I found it in Canada however, it was not an origional Canidian car. I sometimes just look at it and wonder where its been and whats its done.

Me too I like to find where and who owed my 69 Conv 427 which I also bought from Montreal Canada and it also was not built there. I have found some places but it would be nice to get some name and people to talk too. Who is your source for that?

Since there is a Canadian Corvette Registry, like the Pontiac Registry in the U.S., I thought I was in luck. However, my 60' turned out not to be an export but rather a U.S. car that just ended up in Canada.

          Stupid is as stupid does.

During 1969 I started encountering rusty brake caliper problems. There were no stainless sleeved calipers then (not that I could have afforded them anyway), so I just kept replacing the brake piston seals one at a time.

I didn't own any jack stands or big wrenches. I would lift one wheel and pry off the piston seal without separating the caliper halves or breaking the hose attachment to the brake line.

My brother went to school about 400 miles away. One vacation period he took a 12 hour bus ride to borrow my Corvette because I was staying at school to work. Unknown to him was that I had been fighting brake fluid leaks for months. In fact, I had just driven the last 100 miles of a "road trip" using the parking brake to stop the car. Anyway, unknown to ME, I had left the lug nuts loose on the left front wheel during the last seal replacement. My brother discovered this at 60 mph on the highway when that wheel came off.

He calmly walked to a nearby farm house and called me collect. I told him to go find the wheel and put it back on. The hubcap was still on it. Three of the lug nuts were inside. He put it on and continued his vacation without further incident.

After I got out of school, I could finally afford one pair of new caliper halves. I just replaced the worst pair of caliper castings. The others I bled every few weeks.

Bill: If your Vette was an export to Canada you can call 905-440-7636 from 8-5 EST. Just give them your VIN number and they will provide you with information regarding you Vette and the dealership that sold the car etc.

              Richard,

No it was orginally sold in US and export to Canada in 2003. I don't think they would have anything for that, but thanks anyway.
