New Z06..How much faster can they get?

The new Z06 is awesome to say the least. Back in 1990 when the ZR1's rolled off the line, I thought that the horsepower numbers couldn't have gotten to much higer from the factory. It was virtually out-running everything. Now we have a pushrod engine delivering 505 h.p.

The question is: How much higher can the h.p. numbers go? Does anyone think that the government will ever get involved and try to mandate the output of these engines? I really hope not but once again I ask...How high can they go??

maybe not the govt but the insurance

companies will step in like back in the mid 60s. i could not sell my 66 450 HP 427 back in 66/67 because the insurance payment a month was more than the car payment.

See chaper 17 of Dave McMellan's book from 2002

He asks and answers all types of questions (from his point of view) about the future and what the current engine design can max-out at.

He predicted the current Z06 HP rating and the small block 427. (page 271 & 274)

He touches on a 2,500 lbs and 725 HP car but also mentions work that John Lingenfelter had done with modifications to bring the HP higher.

I read somewhere (Car & Driver?) that GM will intro a Z07 in 2 years with 575 HP and turbos! I can't imagine more HP than the new Z06.

we just got back from a corvette show

about 185 miles round trip. john maher of real ZL-1 fame new 505 HP ZO-6 averaged 26 MPG with most of the trip in excess 75 MPH. my 400 HP 05 C-6 with auto trans and the 3.15 rear gear only averaged 25 MPG. these new corvettes are amazing. this included quite a few miles in traffic getting to the show and after the show finding a place to eat.i don't think my 66 427 450 HP corvette would have come close to that and this car is even much quicker.
