'64 Rear Fuel Line Hose Replacement

What is a good technique to remove and reinstall a new gas tank rubber hose and 2 spring clamps working on your back as to not to get gasoline all over ones self?

Greg, I would syphon the gas out of the tank first. A lot safer that way also. John

      Greg,
I just changed the fuel pump in my 64 and I found the best way is to buy a car lift so you don't have to do it on the ground. I think it took me 30 minutes start to finish. I used a squeeze clamp for the rubber hose before I took it off. And the solid line I cracked and drained into a container.

      Have fun.

I just did it on my pickup and have a shoulder that does not like to be upside down or anything. Access could have been a bit better and those stupid old spring clamps dissolved just to make it more fun, the tabs just snapped right off.

I made up the new piece of hose and put cut an extra section put it over the hose then put a vise grip on it so it was ready to go. I pulled the hose off the line and a few drops came out but no stream and slipped the new one in place, left the clamp in the middle then put the other end on the pump and took the clamp off, it did not damage the hose cause there was an extra section of hose under the clamp.

It was on a 72 GMC pickup so ground clearance is big I was told to drain the tank but could not get my head around that. It worked well better than I thouoght it would other than all the grease and rustproof etc all over my hands.
